About Our Anti-Trafficking and GBV Programme in Kyrgyzstan<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Oasis Foundation has operated in Kyrgyzstan since 2003, providing direct assistance to survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence (GBV). We are one of the few organizations in Kyrgyzstan combining anti-trafficking work with GBV response under a single integrated programme. In 2025 alone, we assisted 250+ survivors and trained 350+ government officials on victim identification under Kyrgyzstan’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for Victims of Trafficking.<\/p>

Our survivor-centered model provides immediate protection and long-term rehabilitation, and our advocacy pushes for structural change at the national level. We work alongside survivors, communities, state institutions, and civil society to close the gaps that allow violence and trafficking to persist.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How Human Trafficking Operates in Kyrgyzstan<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Kyrgyzstan is classified as a source country for human trafficking, with victims predominantly recruited through fraudulent employment offers in Russia, Turkey, the UAE, and other countries. Traffickers target individuals facing economic hardship – particularly from rural areas and among labour migrants – with promises of well-paying jobs abroad. Once in the destination country, victims have their passports confiscated, are subjected to debt bondage, and have wages withheld as mechanisms of control.<\/p>

Women and girls face disproportionate risk of sexual exploitation and domestic servitude. Men and boys are predominantly trafficked into forced labour in construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. Children, care leavers, and stateless persons are among the most vulnerable groups. Since 2003, Oasis Foundation has worked directly with survivors of these forms of exploitation, providing support at every stage from crisis intervention through to long-term reintegration.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t When someone escapes a trafficking or GBV situation, immediate safety is the priority. Oasis provides emergency crisis intervention, safe housing referrals, and coordination with the National Referral Mechanism to ensure survivors receive the protection they are entitled to under Kyrgyz law. We then work alongside each survivor to develop a long-term reintegration plan – covering housing, employment, education, and social reconnection.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Legal Advocacy<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Many survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence face significant barriers to justice – including lack of documentation, fear of authorities, and limited knowledge of their rights. Oasis provides free legal representation, assists with documentation recovery and restoration, accompanies survivors through court proceedings, and helps navigate the criminal justice system. We also advocate at the policy level for stronger legal protections for trafficking victims.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Psycho-social Support<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Exploitation leaves lasting psychological harm. Our team of trained counsellors provides trauma-informed individual and group therapy for survivors of trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual exploitation. We run structured peer support groups where survivors can rebuild trust, agency, and social connection. All psycho-social services are confidential and delivered with a survivor-centred approach.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Preventing trafficking requires both community-level education and trained frontline professionals. Oasis runs awareness campaigns in schools, communities, and through national media – equipping people to recognize recruitment tactics and report suspected cases.
